THE BEST FIT LINE USING GEOGEBRA

BEFORE YOU START WATCH THIS INTRO TO GEOGEBRA(COMING SOON)

 

Below is a Geogebra Module that will enable you to get an equation of "Best Fit Line" based on the set of points that you enter into the GeoGebra graphing area. The equation of the "Best Fit Line" will be intitially contructed in the standard form and then will be w=qickly transformd into the slope intercept form.

THE PROCESS OF GETTING THE BEST FIT LINE
--------------------------------------------------------------------------

Step 1) You will remove all the current data from the Geogebra screen.

Step 2) You will adjust your axes so they will be able to display the points associated with your given ordered pairs.

Step 3) You will enter the Geogebra commands that will place your points on the Geogebra Graph.

Step 4) You will enter the Geogebra command to construct a List of the points that you have entered.

Step 5) You will enter the Geogebra command to construct the Best Fit Line with the List you entered in Step 2.

Step 6) You will write down the equation of the best fit line using the appropriate variables instead of the x and y variables of the Geogrba best fit line.

IMPORTANT GEOGEBRA CONCEPTS

- You will be entering your commands into the Input Field at the bottom of the GeoGebra screen.

INPUT AREA

- You will be entering your point commands into the Input Field. The command for entering a point that will be graphed on the Geogebra screen is as follows:

Capital Letter, Equal Sign, Left Parentheses, First Coordinate, Comma, Second Coordinate, Right Parentheses

<Please exclude the commas in the above command>

Example) If you wanted to enter the orderd pair (3,5) as a point with a name P on the GeoGebra screen you would type the following into the Input Field,

pointcommand, then press the Enter Key

 

- You will be entering a List command into the Input Field. The command for entering a List of points is as follows:

Capital Letter, Equal Sign, Left Curly Bracket, Name of Each Poinr Separated by Commas, Right Curly Bracket

<Please exclude the commas in the above command>

Example) Assume you entered in the points (3,5) as L, (2,7) as M and (5,11) as N then the list command would type the following into the Input Field:

list command, then press the Enter Key

 

- You will be entering a Best Fit command into the Input Field. To get the Best Fit Line you will be entering the following command.

Capital Letter, Equal Sign, FitLine Command, Left Square Bracket, List Name, Right Square Bracket

Example) Assume you entered in the List D and you wanted to do a Best Fit Line, You would type in the following into the Input Field

list command, then press the Enter Key

THE GEOGEBRA MODULE

I have entered in 3 ordered pairs, (0, 1), (3, 4) and (7, 8), then created a list and then created a best fit line.
You can delete these points and the best fit line and try this yourself. HAVE FUN!
